![]() “Boogieman” addresses themes of police bias and brutality, both highly relevant themes that musicians like Kendrick Lamar, A Tribe Called Quest, and Beyoncé have confronted. Where the singles took the best parts of these things and brought them to exciting and compelling new heights, much of the album paired them with messy production, indecipherable vocals, and mystifying songwriting to draw these ideas to unexpected lows. The album is experimental, funk and R&B inspired, and entirely devoid of rapping. Gambino keeps a lot of what built up the initial excitement for the singles. ![]() These expectations changed drastically through the album’s 49 minutes. The anticipation for the album was fervent, and expectations were high. Both of these songs are catchy, inventive, and retro departures for Gambino, and seemed to signal a sea change in the musician’s style for his upcoming album. Gambino’s voice is distorted beyond recognition, to a falsetto reminiscent of Prince, that bounces over compelling funk instrumentals. The second song, “Redbone,” was released in a similar way and garnered similar excitement. ![]() “Me and Your Mama” is unlike anything Childish has released, featuring a full choir, a mixture of synths and full-fledged electric guitar, and a conspicuous lack of rapping by the famously articulate and clever emcee. The first single from Childish Gambino’s latest album “Awaken, My Love!” was released with little fanfare: a Youtube video of an eerie, gleeful, blue face, accompanied by a song entitled “Me and Your Mama.” However, the buzz around the song immediately snowballed beyond its understated release. ![]() ![]() ![]() Many schools have embraced the SFG method because it’s easy to install and maintain without becoming an additional burden for the teacher. SFG is a great method for new gardeners, people who have little time, the elderly or disabled ( SFG gardens can be built at a raised height to make them more accessible), and children. The “pros” for SFG are primarily ease and simplicity. Back in the 1970s, this was a revolutionary idea! Never walk on the soil in the bed, as this will only compact the soil.Thin with Scissors: Instead of pulling up excess plants (which can disturb the root systems of the plants you want to grow), snip them off with scissors. The rich soil enables plants to be grown much more closely than normal, which in turn crowds out weeds. This provides a weed-free start as well as being water retentive and full of nutrients. A specific soil mix, which is water-retentive and nutrient-rich, is used to fill the beds.Beds should be deep-between 6 and 12 inches in depth in order to give plants plenty of rich nutrients, while still maintaining good drainage.Climbing peas and beans are planted in two mini-rows of 4 per square. As an exception to this, there are a few larger plants that span two squares. Instead, each square has either 1, 4, 9, or 16 plants in it depending on the size of the plant-easy to position in each square by making a smaller grid in the soil with your fingers. To keep the planting simple, there are no plant spacings to remember. This allows plants to be situated more closely together. That said, the beds can be 2x 2 feet or 4x12 feet, but the most common is 4x4 feet. Typically, SFG beds are at least 4 feet by 4 feet, with a square foot lattice placed on top to visually separate the crops.Add a one-foot square grid on top and it became easy to space and rotate crops. It soon became clear that getting rid of rows and using intensive deep-beds could dramatically cut the amount of maintenance the garden required. In particular, he found the average gardener was spending hours weeding the big gaps between long rows of plants, creating unnecessary work for themselves. It was only natural that he would apply his analytical skills to the problems he encountered. Mel Bartholomew had just retired as an engineer and decided to take up gardening as a hobby. SFG advocates claim it produces more, uses less soil and water, and takes much less time to maintain than a traditional garden.Ģ0 Vegetable Garden Layout Ideas for Any Size Backyard It’s a simple way to create easy-to-manage gardens with raised beds that need a minimum of time spent maintaining them. This planting method was developed by American author and TV presenter Mel Bartholomew in the 1970s. Square-foot gardening ( SFG) is a type of raised-bed gardening-basically, a raised box divided into squares. With the square-foot gardening method, you plant in 4x4-foot blocks instead of traditional rows. Different crops are planted in different blocks according to their size for example, 16 radishes in one square foot, or just one cabbage per square foot. A lattice is laid across the top to clearly separate each square foot. Plus, find six SFG garden plans to reference. Find out the pros and cons, whether square-foot gardening really works, the ideal size and depth that a square-foot garden should be, and more tips. SummaryĮvaporated milk contains both lactose and cow’s milk proteins in high amounts, making it an unsuitable choice for those with cow’s milk allergy or lactose intolerance.Remember when Meet the Parents was the funniest movie, and people loved to do that nipple-tugging gesture, and ha-ha-ha you can milk a cat, and it never got old? Until it did! Circa 2011. In both cases, avoiding milk products seems to be the primary and most effective treatment ( 20, 22, 24). It’s one of the most common food allergies in kids, affecting up to 3% of children in developed countries, and its symptoms may range from mild to severe ( 23).īecause milk proteins remain intact when producing it and considering that it has more protein per cup (240 mL) than fresh milk, evaporated milk may not be suitable for people with CMA. ![]() Still, evaporated milk may pack over twice the estimated amount of lactose than fresh milk, given its higher carb content.Īs for CMA, it’s an immune-mediated reaction to the proteins in cow’s milk, meaning that your body’s defense system attacks milk proteins within minutes or up to 2 hours after drinking milk ( 22, 23). Some researchers suggest that people with lactose intolerance may tolerate up to 15 grams of lactose per day - roughly the amount provided by 1–2 cups (240–480 mL) of milk ( 20). People with lactose intolerance lack the enzyme lactase, which is needed to digest lactose, and thus may experience abdominal pain, bloating, or diarrhea when they consume it ( 21). Lactose is the main type of carb found in milk and dairy products ( 20). ![]() SummaryĮvaporated milk packs high amounts of nutrients and no added sugar, which may help those trying to gain weight or who need higher mineral intakes.Įvaporated milk may be problematic for people with lactose intolerance or cow’s milk allergy (CMA), as it contains more lactose and milk proteins per volume, compared with regular milk. However, if you’re trying to gain weight, you may want to do so healthily to avoid other health problems associated with poor eating habits ( 13, 14, 15, 16).Įvaporated milk may help you gain weight healthily because of its high concentration of nutrients and lack of added sugar, which is associated with the development of heart disease and type 2 diabetes when consumed excessively ( 17).Īside from drinking it, you can use evaporated milk in the preparation of various dishes, such as mashed potatoes, oatmeal, soups, and casseroles.Īdditionally, evaporated milk is fortified with vitamin D - and sometimes with vitamin A - in many countries and naturally high in minerals, such as calcium and phosphorus, which are essential for bone health ( 4, 18, 19). Sweetened condensed milk has an even higher calorie concentration.ĭrinking evaporated milk may be beneficial for those trying to gain weight or increase their mineral intake.īeing underweight is a risk factor for infection, dementia, and even death. SummaryĪs concentrated milk products, whole, reduced fat, and fat-free varieties of evaporated milk have a higher nutrient content than fresh cow’s milk. However, when it comes to comparing evaporated and sweetened condensed milk, you may find more significant differences.įor example, just once ounce (30 mL) of sweetened condensed milk packs 122 calories, 3 grams of protein, 3 grams of fat, and 20 grams of sugar - almost as much as 1 cup (240 mL) of whole evaporated milk ( 12). While calcium is needed for healthy bones, magnesium plays an important role in brain, heart, and muscle health, and zinc is necessary for proper digestion, growth, and immune function ( 9, 10, 11). Generally speaking, they have over twice as many grams of carbs, protein, and fat - except for the reduced fat and fat-free varieties - and higher mineral contents.įor instance, all three types of evaporated milk have over 50% of the Daily Value (DV) for calcium, 15% of the DV for magnesium, and 18% of the DV for zinc, while fresh milk packs 21%, 6%, and 8%, respectively ( 5, 6, 7, 8). As you can see, all three types of evaporated milk have a higher nutrient concentration than fresh cow’s milk, and therefore, more calories. ![]() ![]() ![]() LimeWire is one of the simplest, most legal and user friendly P2P file sharing applications out there. The name originated from a blend of the words wiki and encyclopedia. Wikipedia was launched on Janu as a single English-language edition at and announced by Sanger on the Nupedia mailing list. The domains (later redirecting to ) and were registered on January 12, 2001, and January 13, 2001, respectively. On January 10, 2001, Sanger proposed on the Nupedia mailing list to create a wiki as a "feeder" project for Nupedia. Wales is credited with defining the goal of making a publicly editable encyclopedia, while Sanger is credited with the strategy of using a wiki to reach that goal. Nupedia was initially licensed under its own Nupedia Open Content License, but before Wikipedia was founded, Nupedia switched to the GNU Free Documentation License at the urging of Richard Stallman. Its main figures were Bomis CEO Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger, editor-in-chief for Nupedia and later Wikipedia. It was founded on March 9, 2000, under the ownership of Bomis, a web portal company. Wikipedia began as a complementary project for Nupedia, a free online English-language encyclopedia project whose articles were written by experts and reviewed under a formal process. Various collaborative online encyclopedias were attempted before the start of Wikipedia, but with limited success. Wikipedia founders Jimmy Wales (left) and Larry Sanger (right) Articles on breaking news are often accessed as a source of frequently updated information about those events. It has been censored by world governments, ranging from specific pages to the entire site. While the reliability of Wikipedia was frequently criticized in the 2000s, it has improved over time, receiving greater praise in the late 2010s and early 2020s, having become an important fact-checking site. It has been criticized for exhibiting systemic bias, particularly gender bias against women and geographical bias against the Global South. Wikipedia has been praised for its enablement of the democratization of knowledge, extent of coverage, unique structure, and culture. Wikipedia's combined editions comprise more than 61 million articles, attracting around 2 billion unique device visits per month and more than 15 million edits per month (about 5.8 edits per second on average) as of July 2023. Initially available only in English, versions in other languages were quickly developed. Created by Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger on January 15, 2001, it is hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation, an American non-profit organization.
